Poker SEO Shortcuts

Poker SEO shortcuts and poker SEO shortcut advice from other people in the industry probably focus on building links rather than content. You probably won’t be surprised to hear me say that I’d recommend a different approach.

Suppose that you’re launching a brand new poker site and you want to get qualified poker traffic as quickly as possible. You want to take an SEO shortcut. (With any luck, you already realize that poker SEO isn’t really about rankings at all. It’s about how much qualified poker traffic you can get.) My recommendation is to focus on creating as much poker content as you can in a short period of time.

And even though this poker SEO technique is a “poker SEO shortcut”, it’s still going to take a little bit of time to accomplish. Here’s how you start getting qualified poker traffic to your site right away by creating one massive piece of poker content. This will result in qualified poker traffic even before you have time to build a bunch of links or write 100 pages of content:

Poker SEO Shortcut Step 1 – Write the longest page of poker content that you possibly can for your homepage. Do a total brain dump and write all day long. Put an entire day into this page.

Make sure that each block of text, each paragraph, each bullet point, includes a clear topic. If your site is about a specific poker niche, like “Texas holdem”, then each of your text blocks should be about a different subtopic of that main topic. (Subtopics of “Texas holdem” would include things like “Limit holdem”, “No limit holdem”, “Texas holdem rules”, “Texas holdem strategy”, etc.)

Suppose that you’re able to write 1000 words of poker content per hour. (That’s pretty aggressive, but let’s use that number just for the sake of argument.) If you spend an entire day writing poker content for your homepage, you’ll have an 8000 word page.  You could easily have between 100 and 250 blocks of text on the page. If each of those blocks of texts targets at least one poker keyword phrase, then you could potentially rank for between 100 and 250 different poker phrases.

That should get you between 1 and 25 qualified poker visitors per day right off the bat, assuming you can get the page crawled and indexed. Which leads us to step 2:

Poker SEO Shortcut Step 2 – Get a link or two.

Getting a link or two pointing at your page should get your page crawled and indexed. Since you’re taking such a shotgun approach to publishing the poker content on the homepage, you’re basically just throwing content against the wall to see what sticks. But it still has to be indexed and ranked somewhere in the results.

Then watch your referral logs for qualified poker traffic.

Poker SEO Shortcut Step 3 – Let your referral logs do your poker keyword research for you.

Most of the time when you’re doing SEO on a poker site, you’re going to start with a bunch of keyword research. But in this shortcut, you’ve skipped the keyword research in order to just spend a day writing a massive page of poker content and getting a link or two pointing at it. The next step is to start watching your referral logs for qualified poker traffic.

You’ll see people have arrived at your site for poker related search phrases no keyword research tool would ever have recommended. You’ll see searchers coming to your site for poker related search phrases that you would have never thought about.

You’ll get qualified poker traffic for phrases like “10 best starting hands in Texas holdem.” You’ll get qualified poker traffic for phrases like “Omaha poker bankroll management.” Now you can start expanding your content using these poker related search phrases as your jumping off point.

The web users, the search engines, and your referral logs are all chipping in to tell you what poker topics to write about when you start adding content to the site.

No poker keyword phrase brainstorming necessary.

No poker keyword tool necessary.

Great stuff Randy. I’m going to test this out on a new poker site I’m putting together.

Would you suggest leaving the ginormous homepage from here on out? Or, would you trim it down as you built the site from the search log keywords?

I tend to leave my homepage long, even when I launch additional pages on subtopics. A lot of times I’ll get the always-coveted “indented listing” in Google for a phrase that way.
