Press Releases - Posting Them to Website

I'm sure I've asked this before but I want to be absolutely clear about it.

I have a couple of sites where industry news is of benefit to the reader. Things like upcoming auctions, sales results etc.

We get emailed press releases from different companies within the industry. It's good information and it is of use to the reader.

That being said, I can't get past the point of copying and pasting a press release and putting it on my site.

An alternative is to rewrite these and make it unique, but I'd rather have truly unique content and not rehashed public information.

If I don't do either than the content added to the site will almost all be "pages" and not "posts" and have no industry news and updates.

I'm stuck for a solution here.

Also, can I get thoughts on the SEO side of posting press releases straight to the website please.

If you want truly unique information, try contacting the person on the other end of the press release and asking a couple of questions. Then you'll have content to add to your news report that other sources don't have, because it wasn't included in the original press release.

You might think about writing a summary of the press release and posting that above the press release. This way you're not altering the distributor's copy (which you're really expected to leave unchanged) but you're adding value for your readers.
